The Adventures of Pearl & Theo is a middle-grade novel that introduces readers to the orphaned lambs, Pearl and Theo, who unexpectedly find themselves navigating life on a ranch. Surrounded by the vast, unhurried beauty of the prairie, this story is about belonging and finding family in unexpected places. Together, Pearl and Theo discover that home and family isn't always defined by blood-sometimes, it's shaped by love, trust, and the community that rallies around you. From Franny, the spunky goat, to the quiet support of the ranch itself, this book beautifully illustrates how resilience and community are forged, not in spite of, but because of the unavoidable adversity of growing up.

Written with the same empathy and care that Eliza Blue poured into adopting the real-life Pearl and Theo, this novel encourages young readers to reflect on the importance of kindness and the strength that can be found in community. Set against the expansive backdrop of the plains, the land and the seasons emerge as central characters, rich with emotion and significance. In this book, as in Blue's other work, the prairie is more than just a setting-it is a partner in the storytelling.

Illustrated by Karen Kinder, a fellow Dakotan whose sketches bring the characters to life with playful and whimsical artistry, The Adventures of Pearl & Theo is a book designed to be read aloud. Its tender moments and humorous antics will engage readers of all ages, making it a perfect addition to the family bookshelf.

The Adventures of Pearl & Theo is ideal for readers who crave heartfelt stories filled with adventure, animal companions, and a deep connection to the land.

Eliza Blue is a writer, folk musician, and shepherd living on the short grass prairie of western South Dakota. Her first book, Accidental Rancher, was the Siouxland One Book 2023. Her second book, Little Pasture on the Prairie, was released by the SD Historical Society Press in 2024. She is also the founder and director of the Kithship Collective, an organization devoted to ecosystem-specific storytelling.
