"Living in solidarity, it's looking at your neighbors and the people around you and seeing what is it that we need to do together or what is it that we don't understand about each other, and what happens when we do come together in solidarity to make the community better."

“Pop culture oftentimes has been a vehicle to help us imagine a better future or a worse future, but also has been a vehicle to Trojan Horse, I think, more diversity, which is why cultural stories are also so threatening to people right now, and why you're seeing books being banned, because that's the power of stories.”

"I would say that choosing to be a writer is the one decision I've never regretted. It makes you immeasurably rich. I think it's deepened my relationships, it's helped me to read the world, it's helped me to feel full in a way that I can't imagine I would be if I didn't have writing, but paying the bills is still a challenge."

“I was trying to think of how-- Because I'm studying social media now in school, I was trying to think of how you take like the narrative of the Twitter feed, which is a narrative different from anything we've seen before and how do you bottle that and turn that into something that resembles a more traditional piece of media. What are the elements of social media and of the Twitter feed that you can translate?”
