Hello, my name is Lupe Duron Dunn. My family and I immigrated to the United States in 1950. As early as I can remember, the thirst for knowledge was the beginning of what now is a first-time published book authored by me. My career in education began teaching in elementary, as well as incarcerated youths and adults. Before completing my teaching career, I returned to elementary, teaching the shelter and homeless children in the city of Orange, California.
Now retired from an extensive teaching career, with fond memories and a grateful heart for all the excellent opportunities to know that each student can learn and that along the way, I was part of that wonderful magical process. In a newly published book, a collection in a free verse format consisting of poems, short stories, and essays, uplifting writings that transcend culture and time, I am a strong believer that inspiration is everywhere; nature, people, all that surrounds the human eye.
For example, in the poem selection, my first poem I wrote in celebration of a graduating class for their success as they were the incarcerated youths and had overcome many obstacles. Secondly, one of the stories shared an adventure resulting in the kindness of the Navajo people. These are just a few examples. The rest of the reading will be up to all of you to experience. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to share the content of my book titled, The Book: Poems, Short Stories and Essays authored by me, Lupe Duron Dunn.
