During the time the White Star Line existed, Britain was involved in both the Boer Wars and World War I. The White Star vessels contributed greatly to the British war effort in each conflict. They didn't always make it out intact, HMHS Britannic an example of a beautiful liner to be lost after hitting a mine. After the merger of White Star with Cunard in 1934, several of the company's vessels went on to serve in World War II.
