Thirty, Dirty, and Drowning

It all began the typical way

There was darkness and pain

Storms that raged on without ceasing

I was thrust into the ocean

Drifting in the current

Bobbing in the waves

I learned to swim

Tread water to stay alive

But I also tasted drowning

I knew the boats were not for me

That the rafts would come and go

It was never my place to be on dry land

Though I had no love for the sea
