An authentic, true story of the Navajos in the 1930s. Newlyweds, a Navajo man who had worked as an extra in Hollywood movies and Juanita, a whie woman from an Indian dance group decide to go to New Mexico and live with Luciano's family who speak no English, and the womanfolk had not see a whte woman. Both sides have much adjusting, as Juanita learns to cook over a cental fire pit, Luciano's father had mysterious recently died. There is much Navajo witchcraft going on which they strive to keep from Juanaita who feels puzzled and smothered by their protection, longing at times to just be alone. In time they have their own home, work, two daughters and horses before fate and tragedy plays a role.
