Growing up as a servant to the evil witch, Ilth, Marin has no concept of life beyond her farm. He doesn't know who his parents were or where he came from. When a rupture in his daily routine introduces him to Aster, another servant, they scheme an escape to seek their fortunes in the world beyond Ilth's farm. But the world holds much more danger than Marin and Aster can imagine, from tyrannical kings and vengeful demigods to goblin armies, and legendary monsters.

As they struggle to conquer these challenges, Ilth tracks them down with wicked schemes of her own.
