When cult leader Oliver Lewis endeavours to lead his followers to the Field of Reeds, Declan Keenan and Karuna Patel feel compelled to get in his way. In an effort to help two people they care about, Declan and Karuna team up with a journalist and a close friend to see what Oliver's group, Quantum Awareness, is all about. What they discover is disturbing: Oliver has declared himself a prophet, assuming the name Amun, and started promoting a doctrine that takes QA members onto the stairway to heaven. As circumstances unfold, Declan and Karuna see the lengths the cult will go to preserve itself. Eventually a showdown between the dark horse couple and the dark ones in Quantum Awareness ensues with the Field of Reeds resting within perilous reach.
