The Mistaken Mulozi: A P&T Detective Story

It is the mid-1990s, Toh'lee is a young Efe indigenous woman in the Ituri forest, in what was then the country of Zaire. She is looking for her mother, desperately hoping that by finding Sabu she will uncover the answers she needs. Pumbafu is a young gofer for a corrupt general. He is also looking for answers but mostly to avoid a beating from his brutal boss.

The two encounter a richly diverse cast of characters as they travel across the Ituri: including nuns and priests, illegal gold miners, village chiefs and their wives, a bar owner and her bouncer, ivory poachers, a flamboyantly mustachioed Belgian coffee planter, two murderers, and a magistrate.

In the process they each discover sufficient clues to solve several mysteries, and learn enough about themselves, to establish the P&T Detective Agency.

Though this is a work of fiction, almost everything you will read is closely based on

actual events. The story is told through the voices of the characters the authors lived with

and met. In many ways this is more like a memoir, written as a detective novel, with

neither author playing a lead role in the story.
