The Little Shepherdess and the Lost Lamb
Noël JustineJosephine has never done anything as big as this before.
The tiniest, most determined lamb has slipped away from its mother, and Josephine is absolutely certain that she is the one who can bring it home. From the sheep barn to the chicken coop, from the pig sty to the milk barn, this pint-sized farm girl chases that little lamb through every corner of the barnyard, tumbling into hay bales, startling hens, and even landing square in a pig pen, all in her quest to prove that she is old enough, capable enough, and responsible enough to help.
The Little Shepherdess and the Lost Lamb is a warm, funny, and heartfelt read-aloud that captures exactly what it feels like to be the littlest one in a big, busy family, desperate to be trusted with something that matters. Pitter, patter, pitter, patter, the lamb always seems to be just out of reach, and each failed attempt leaves Josephine a little more discouraged, until she remembers her father's words: never fail to ask God for help, even in the small things.
Set on a real working farm among sheep, chickens, pigs, and a gentle milk cow, this charming farm animal story will delight children who love animals, barnyard adventures, and stories about grit and grace. Along the way, young readers will laugh at Josephine's barnyard mishaps, cheer for her persistence, and discover a tender surprise ending that reminds them being trusted with responsibility often starts with someone who believes in you first.
Told with gentle humor and vivid, sensory detail, this lost lamb story reads beautifully aloud, with plenty of sound effects and repeated phrases that little ones will love to chime in on. It is the kind of farm life picture book that holds up to repeat bedtime readings, offering something new to notice, and a fresh giggle, every time.
Perfect for family read-aloud time, bedtime stories, or a child's very own farm adventure library, The Little Shepherdess and the Lost Lamb speaks to children ages 3 to 10, though it is truly written for the whole family, parents and grandparents included, to enjoy together. It celebrates determination, prayer, and the quiet moments when a parent's confidence changes everything for a child who just wants to help.
Pull on your boots and come along with Josephine. Where is that lamb going to end up next?

About the Author:
Noël Justine is a Christian, a wife, a mama-to-many, and a farmer and writer whose stories grow straight out of daily life on the land. Raised a farm kid, she learned early that good stewardship matters, even when the work feels like a chore rather than a privilege. Noël and her husband, Seth, are raising eight children together, filling their days with homeschooling, gardening, animal chores, and countless barnyard adventures like the one that inspired The Little Shepherdess and the Lost Lamb. She runs a micro-dairy herdshare, milking Jersey cows alongside her children and supplying fresh raw milk to thirty local families each week, while also raising sheep, chickens, pigs, and beef cattle. Noël has dreamed of writing since she was a young girl, and she writes to create wonder, inspire imagination, and encourage the next generation of women to embrace the high calling of marriage and motherhood for the glory of God.
