Sam Wood Floods of Ungodly Men
Henry E. PeavlerColonel Sam Wood, the Fighting Quaker, was a real-life Superhero before the term was even coined. He was friend to every Abolitionist from Abraham Lincoln to Harriet Tubman; from John Brown to Frederick Douglass and foe to every slaveholder from Jefferson Davis to Henry Clay He demanded equality for all, elimination of slavery and the right to vote for women. He was belittled, ridiculed and threatened by thugs throughout the Union, but he refused to back down. Sam lived life on the edge and the fact he lived as long as he did is attributed by some to divine intervention and others to the 'luck of the Irish'.
Regardless, Sam Wood deserves to be remembered because without him and others like him, we might still be trapped in the disgusting swamp of slavery- "the most wicked sin ever invented".
