Kilgore's Colt is the story of two run-aways. One is a veteran of the Spanish-American War whose post-war life has collapsed into a failed bank robbery. His escape in a freight train box car collides with the other run-away, a tough talking kid who witnessed a Chicago political killing and is pursued by the killers. The pair has no use for each other, but must cooperate to escape the boxcar before they are discovered. The desperate escape reveals the kid is actually an18 year old girl in boy's clothes. They decide to stick together as father and son when they emerge from the woods into the prosperous town Bakerfield. Through good luck and relying on each other, they are accepted. The law and killers are relentless. Back-to-back, the pair must face their past in a cloud of gun smoke.
