40 Years and Wandering No More
Karen HolmesThis is the memoir of a profound journey-of discovering who she truly was deep within her mind, heart, and soul as a transgender woman. From the age of 13 to 53, she lived an internal battle, struggling to set her true self free. For 40 years, she wandered. Now, that journey has ended.
She finally became who she was always meant to be: Karen Kendra Holmes.
Today, Karen loves her life as a transgender woman-every single day. She serves as a federal government employee and proudly stands with the Maryland Defense Force and the U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps. She also volunteers with the Red Cross Disaster Action Team and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
She speaks across the country to members of the military, law enforcement, the medical community, federal agencies, and students at schools, colleges, and universities, and is a TEDx Speaker. Her mission is to empower the transgender community to live as their authentic selves, while helping the cisgender community better understand who they are.
Her guiding message to the world is simple: If you believe in something, you may achieve it. But if you believe in yourself, you will.
