This book includes over a hundred fun and interesting astronomy, astrology, or mythology-related factoids, a variety of biographically-based true stories showcasing what the author perceives as awareness or intelligence at work in the natural world, a history of our current calendar, a look at what's known of a European calendar in use previously (and the old Anglish gods inspiring current names for days of the week), lots of poetry, a few recipes, and even a game that can be played in sympathy with any given lunation (though it can be played without such reference, if desired). The book contains old traditions related to a variety of holidays and even has a metaphysical element, in that either a dream (experienced while asleep) or a meditation (experienced while awake) appropriate to materials that follow is positioned at the beginning of each chapter. Drawing on the wisdom of traditional people from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean (sometimes via shared experiences and sometimes through ancient history), it was written to keep the sample luni-solar calendar that occupies the left-hand pages company and was born of the author's longing for a more organic way of telling time.
