The Personal Injury Handbook for Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia: The Nuts and Bolts of Handling a Personal Injury Case from Beginning to End and How to Make a Living Doing So by Steven D. Campen, Esq.

Law school typically teaches theory and not the practicalities of practicing law and running a law firm financially. The Personal Injury Handbook is meant to instruct new lawyers and those just beginning to practice personal injury law, from organizing the firm, to obtaining clients, to dealing with the myriad of insurance issues that attend each such case. It guides the reader from investigation of the case though strategies to settling it, as well as the steps to litigate the case, if necessary, from filing the complaint in the proper forum to trying the case before a jury. It also includes all the forms necessary to handle each case at every interval and in both state and federal courts.

The Personal Injury Handbook will also be exceedingly beneficial to longtime personal injury lawyers who often have cases in all jurisdictions, particularly because it provides an easy cross-reference to laws in all three jurisdictions and in federal court.

About the Author

Steven D. Campen, Esq. and his wife met as teenagers and have been happily married since 1975. They have four children: Heidi Elmore, who lives in San Jose, California, and works in administration at Santa Clara University; Samantha Manganaro (Sami), who is a graduate of Baltimore School of Law and has been his law partner since 2016; and Luke and Jesse Campen, who both have their degrees in Creative Writing. They have three grandchildren: Verite, who is Heidi's son, and Frankie and Nolan, who are Samantha's sons. Both Steven and Sami are heavily involved in Rotary and are Paul Harris Fellows, representing the highest level of donors in terms of finances, time, or both.

A fan of all the local sports teams, Steve's favorites include the Washington Commanders, Washington Nationals, Washington Capitals, Baltimore Ravens, and Baltimore Orioles. He enjoys working out at the local YMCA, working with Rotary, and reading anything and everything. He has also been blessed to mentor many young lawyers throughout his many years of practice, which has given him a great deal of fulfillment.

Steve is a member of the Million-Dollar Advocates Forum, representing lawyers who have obtained jury verdicts or settlements of one million dollars or more, and a member of America's Top 100 Personal Injury Lawyers, America's Top 100 High Stakes Litigators, and The Lawyers of Distinction.
