This is book one of the Marda Loop Mysteries. It is the story of an assault victim, Louise Dubois, working with a detective who happens to be an old flame, Gregory Band, to solve a recent murder and her case simultaneously. As they work side by side, old feelings begin to emerge. At this point in her recovery, Louise is done with evenings spent on the sofa watching The Bachelor and ready to emerge into the world, have fun and live again.

This book features open-door spicy scenes as the couple works to catch a murderer and falls in love in the process.

It is set in Calgary, Alberta, in the adorable neighbourhood of Marda Loop.

There is a cast of loveable characters, including a busybody mother, some interfering best friends and a grey tabby cat with divided loyalties.

Louise works through her past trauma to emerge stronger, more independent and with a life that feels more like her own then the one she was living before.

Here is the book blurb:

You never forget the one that got away...

Louise Dubois was tired of hiding.

After being attacked by an unknown assailant three years ago, she is moving on with her life. As if on cue, officer Gregory Band - an old university flame - calls upon Louise to revisit her own cold case and give him new leads to follow in a local murder. Louise dusts off old memories, willing to do anything to help Gregory catch the Marda Loop Murderer.

The similarities between the recent murder and Louise's unsolved case cannot be ignored. Single women, minimal traces of DNA, and the signature red dress at the scene. But these connections aren't the only thing making Louise's heart race. A resurgence of feelings for her former lover has her pulse pounding too. She wonders if she can trust their fragile connection or if the past will come back to haunt her once again.

With Gregory's help, Louise takes charge of her own destiny, using her fragmented memories to lead them to the killer threatening the citizens of Marda Loop.

Will Louise find the strength to face the past in order to build a brighter future?

Or will the murderer finally silence the one who got away?
