A Brief History of Local Literary Journals

As part of the Summer Writing Project, an annual collaboration between Black Hill Press, JukePop, and 1888 that advocates writing and supports reading, we present a panel to discuss The Elements of Genre.Literary journals, originally called “Little Magazines,” have long been the benchmark for showcasing trends in the literary community. This panel, recorded live at Chapman University, Leatherby Libraries, will explore the beginnings of the literary journal, its publishing process, and what new opportunities the future holds for publications and institutions alike with Garrett Bryant of Poetry International, Mellinda Hensley of Southern California Review, and Nicole Mormann of Calliope Art & Literary Magazine.
