I have used the\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003etimeline from that journey as the basis and structure of\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003ethis book, breaking up my career into what I'm going to\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003ecall four stages that are represented in the above diagram.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThis covers my career from graduation day up until now.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe four stages are: \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e1. Clinical Excellence\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e2. Commercial Success\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e3. Maximise Equity\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e4. Leverage Equity\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe diagram shows a linear path with years indicated\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003ebecause that was my path. However, I do not see the time\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003efragments as set in stone, and the time taken to achieve\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003emilestones may be shorter or longer than what I have\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eindicated. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eI have known some practitioners who have paused\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003etheir career at clinical excellence or commercial success, \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003ewhich is absolutely line. They are happy with their work and\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eare successful in it and pausing there has suited them. Also\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003enote that at the completion of stage four there is more. I have\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eincluded a chapter that I call Harvesting Knowledge, where\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003epractitioners have used the skills learnt on the journey to\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003edo different activities in their career, just as I have done. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eIt is added in 3D because it is relevant and sits behind each of\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003ethe four sections, which I will explain when we get there.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eI have also used the metaphor of the list as the path.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eWhen you begin practice you build a list of patients to treat.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eAs you become more competent, you begin to own that\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003epatient list. That means you have loyal patients who will\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003efollow you and ask for you when they need assistance.
