He became the translator for the tribe and began trading for land in the Carolina Colony; after 40 years, he had accumulated 8,000 acres. The old chief made him promise never to sell or trade the land. Through seven generations, the family kept that promise and now operates with its 7th Great-grandson, who is 87 years old and has no one to pass the torch to.
