Far from being simply a lighthearted affair, the conversation probes\u003cbr\u003etimeless questions regarding wisdom, love, and female capacity, and over it looms the deadly serious matter of Socrates' trial and death. \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eBoth works are rich sources for Athenian social history of the Classical period. \u003cem\u003eOeconomicus\u003c\/em\u003e in particular offers insights on the role and status of women in Ancient Athens.
